One Room Challenge: Week 2

One Room Challenge: Week 2

I am happy to report that I crossed off EVERY item on my One Room Challenge to-do list for week 1. I started the week off by rearranging the furniture in the room. Here is the original layout:

This arrangement was not working well at all. First off, the view when walking into the room was focused on toys (which were often messy). Second, the closet door opened into the corner which made it hard to put a nightstand on either side of the bed. I rearranged the furniture in 5 minutes and came up with this new layout:

This worked so much better! Now you see a nightstand and part of the bed when walking into the room. I actually took off the closet door and decided that I will eventually replace it with a sliding door to allow more usable space in the room. After I rearranged the furniture, I went back to Photoshop and started taking my inspiration board from last week and creating a rendering with the new layout. Here is what I have planned so far:

The next item on my to-do list was to paint. I covered up our original Sherwin William’s Agreeable Gray with Benjamin Moore’s Simply White. This doesn’t seem like a huge change to some people but this room gets so much natural light and the room is pretty small so the gray was making the walls look a little dirty and making the room feel smaller. The crisp white paint really brightens up the room and gives me a great backdrop to work with. Here is the new paint color:

Next, we headed out to IKEA to pick up the pendant light. My daughter, Taylee, has been in love with the Grimsas light ever since she laid eyes on it so I knew I wanted to use it. It is 32 inches in diameter so it is HUGE in the room and makes a big statement. It works really well in this room because the light is white, as well as the walls and ceiling so it sort of blends in and creates more dimension and texture to the room instead of looking abnormally large and overpowering. The light also makes a floral shadow on the walls at night which is super magical for a little girl’s room.

If you remember my rug ordering dilemma I mentioned in Week 1’s blog post, you know how excited I was to finally find the perfect rug that wasn’t backordered. Well, the rug came and it is even better than I imagined. I am in love and so excited to start adding some color to the room!

So, what is on my to-do list for week 2? I am going to reupholster a bed for a little DIY action. I am also planning on finding bedding and if I have time I will start on the dollhouse makeover. Lots of DIY action this week so make sure you stay tuned to my Instagram stories to see more!

Don’t forget to check out what the other guest participants are up to this week HERE for the One Room Challenge and give them some love!
