Ready, Set, GO......One Room Challenge Week 1!

Ready, Set, GO......One Room Challenge Week 1!

I have been wanting to participate in the One Room Challenge for years now and I am happy to announce that it is finally happening! If you aren’t familiar with this challenge, it is a platform that gathers designers, DIYers and home decor enthusiasts to transform an entire room in 6 weeks and share their process with everyone. Read all about this amazing challenge and check out other participants HERE.

Task #1: Deciding on a room

This was actually an easy decision because we just moved into a new home and we haven’t decorated any room yet. Honestly, any room in my home could use some love and attention but we decided to focus on my 8-year-old daughter Taylee’s bedroom. Being the only girl surrounded by 3 brothers, she totally deserves a pretty space that is all her own and very girly.

Task #2: Gather Inspiration

Since I focus my entire design business on E-Design, I am treating myself just like any other client I work with. That means I will be working with the same design process that I offer my clients. The first step in my process is to gather inspiration. I do this because it helps narrow down what I want for the room. This is not simply one picture that I find on Pinterest either, this is a whole board of images with different things I love. Once I gather all the photos, I can really pinpoint the common themes, the overall vibe and the colors that I really want to incorporate. Here is the inspiration board for Taylee’s bedroom:

Task #3: Create a Rough Draft

Now that I gathered all of my inspiration, I picked an overall style and color scheme for the room to help me get started. Next, I started looking online for a rug because I prefer starting off a room with a rug. Why? Because rugs are harder to shop for in your exact color scheme, size and budget. So I looked for soft pink vintage rugs and found the perfect one and ordered it BUT it got put on backorder until Christmas. So I cancelled that order and went with my plan B rug. Guess what happened…….it got backordered until Thanksgiving! That was not going to work with this 6 week challenge so I got on the phone with a sales rep and they helped me find a rug in stock, in my size and budget in a pretty gray and blush pink color. To be completely honest, I LOVE this final rug better than the other ones! I am so happy it all worked out in the end because I was stressing out just a little bit.

Besides the rug, I started finding fabric and lighting options to get my creative juices flowing. Here is my rough draft:

Now is the fun part……..we start decorating! Over the next 6 weeks I will be posting my progress here on the blog, as well as additional behind-the-scenes videos on Instagram. Here is the breakdown of what to expect every week:

Week 1: Painting the room, installing the light, add the rug

Week 2: DIY upholstered bed, add bedding

Week 3: DIY sliding closet door, nightstand update

Week 4: Dollhouse makeover, add wall decor

Week 5: Styling and last minute details

Week 6: ROOM REVEAL!!!

STAY TUNED because this is going to be a fun experience to see E-Design in action!
